Welcome to the Marathon Club website

The Marathon Club is a direct follow-up project to the competition run by USS Ltd and Hewitt (with support from FTfm) entitled “Managing pension funds as if the long-term really did matter”.  

The competition provoked new thinking and a debate about what fund managers could do but also raised important challenges for trustees and investment consultants. 

These challenges have been further highlighted by the Myners report and the Treasury’s post-Myners review and include issues such as investment time horizons and shareholder activism.

Put simply, it is unlikely that funds can adopt a more long-term, responsible and active investing approach with current levels of performance on governance and investment strategic decision-making.
